if: Toy :: [Tango & Teddy]

Ok, so this is a bit different from what I normally do, but that's ok, right? Tango really loves toys, and has a number of them. Sometimes we line them up for her and tell her to fetch. She always goes and smells each one, and then picks her favorite, the yellow ball.
I started this watercolor with a pencil sketch, inspired by the art of Penelope Neal. (You should definitely check out her blog and website. She does the most beautiful sketches and paintings.) When I was done with the drawing I scanned it and printed it on watercolor paper, and then I smeared the printer ink and added black watercolor.

Below is the original image, before I cropped it. I'm not sure which one I like better. What do you think?

  1. Beautiful painting. It works great both ways but I think I like it cropped. It seems to put the focus right on the dog's eyes. :)

  4. Claudia,
Tango, oh, so sweet! I'm with everyone above—beautiful, gorgeous, and wonderful! What a sweetheart that pupper of yours is and you capture her with such ease...Thank God for our critters.

And thank you for mentioning me in your post—I'm honored! I'm so inspired by artists like you and knowing people/artists are looking and learning is what it's all about. I think it's why we blog—learn and gather gifts from each other.

    So glad our blog-o-spheres collided.

  9. Nice! I was going to say I prefer the cropped version, but after looking a while became undecided. Both are interesting. 2nd version lets us see the technique better.
